1. Omkar Hills and Turahalli Forest – 13 kms [Temple, Sight Seeing]

Omkar Hills: 2800 ft above sea level Houses many temples, Sri Dwadasha Jyotirlinga Temple being the main attraction (the one in above photo) Sarvadharma Samanvaya Peetha which means seat of equality for all religions. Banyan tree surrounded by eight mini shrines of different religions. Giant tower clock which is one of the biggest clocks in the world. Each hand of the clock weighing 40 kg.

Turahalli Forest: One of the few forest tracts near Bangalore, Turahalli, a dry, deciduous forest of 800 acres, is dominated by eucalyptus and other native shrubs. Its a destination for the Rock climbers and Bird watchers. Its a reserved forest for Peacocks.

2. Art of Living International Center – 24 kms [Ashram]

Art of Living International Center situated on the top of the Panchagiri Hills, 24km southwest of Bangalore, near Udipalya village. The campus is spread over 65 acres, with an abundance of flowering foliage spread along winding footpaths, a peaceful lake and the exquisitely beautiful Vishalakshi Mantap, the central meditation hall.
The Ashram is an ideal location for reflection and retreat, where people from all backgrounds, religions and ethnicity come together in knowledge, celebration and service.

3. Pyramid valley – 37 kms [Meditation Centre]

Pyramid Valley is an International Meditation center and is a home for the largest Meditational Pyramid.

This pyramid has a capacity to seat 5000 people for practising intensive meditation. This is constructed on the principles of Giza pyramid oriented in the north south direction , as tall as a 10 storey building. The Pyramid has the golden angle of inclination at 51° 51’ and the King’s Chamber located at the center at 1/3rd the height of the Pyramid. 4. Savandurga Hill, – 50 kms [Trek]

The hill is considered to be among the largest monolith hills in Asia. The hill rises to 1226 m above mean sea level and forms a part of the Deccan plateau. It consists of peninsular gneiss, granites, basic dykes and laterites. The Arkavathi river passes nearby through the Thippagondanahalli reservoir and on towards Manchanabele dam.

5. Shivaganga Hill – 50 kms [Temple, Trek]

Shivagange is a mountain peak with a height of 1368 meters[1] and Hindu pilgrimage center located near Dobbaspet, in Bangalore. This place is having various temples such as Gangadhareshwara temple, Sri Honnadevi Temple, Olakal Teertha, Nandi Statue, Patalagange,[3] A historical rock statue of Nandi or Basavanna carved on top of a steep rock is considered as a spell binding sculpture because of its narrow location.

6. Nijagal Betta, Tumkur – 52 kms [Trek]

Nijagallu Betta is located just 50 around Bangalore, and about a couple of kms from Tumur. It is not quite a popular destination for trek planners, but for non-planners, its one of the best known weekend getaway options from Bangalore.

Nijagal Betta is full of ruined caves, forts and temples. A mid-seventeenth century fort, build by Chikkadevaraya Wadiyar, adorns this hillock. Here in Nijagallu Betta, its believed that a war was fought between Hyder Ali and Peshwa Madhav Rao. On the trekking route, there is a set of caves that houses a small Shiva shrine and dargah.

7. Makalidurga, Doddaballapura – 55 kms [Trek]

Makalidurga is a hill fort situated near the village of the same name. It is 60 km north of Bangalore and 10 km after Doddaballapura on the way to gauribidanur. The fort at the summit has an old temple of Shiva with Nandi and in legend Markandeya Rishi performed penance here.

Makalidurga Fort stands at the top of a huge granite hillock, huddled up amidst the chains of hills, formed like a valley close to Ghati Subramanya, a well-known pilgrimage center. It has a fort on top, at the height of 1,117mts.

8. SRS Hills, Ramnagar – 60 kms [Temple, Trek]

Sri Revana Siddheshwara (SRS) Betta is about 3066 feet above sea level and has steps on the western side. There are 3 temples on the hill & one at base. There is small pond of water beside the main temple. The place is rich in history right from the Gangas to Kempegowda and Tipu Sultan.

9. Nandi Hills – 60kms [Sight Seeing]

Nandi Hills offers a surprise of breathtaking scenic beauty and excellent climatic condition. Situated in the Chikkaballapur Taluk of Kolar District in Karnataka, Nandi Hills, at the height of 4851 feet above sea level is, the most popular picnic spot.

There are many stories about the orgin of the name Nandi Hills. During the Chola period, Nandi Hills was called Ananda Giri meaning The Hill of Happiness. Another story is that Yoga Nandeeshwara performed penance here, and so it was named after him. A temple of Yoga Nandeeshwara is situated on top of the hill. Nandi is also commonly called Nandidurga (Fort) because of the fort build here by the ruler Tippu Sultan. It is also perhaps called Nandi Hills because the hill resembles a sleeping bull (Nandi).

10. Skandagiri Hills – 60 kms [Trek]

Also known as Kalavara Durga, Skandagiri is located around 70km from Bangalore and can be reached within 2 hours of drive from the city. Offering panoramic views of the night sky and the sunrise, this 8km trek comprises of ascending and descending through rugged terrains and can be completed within 4-5 hours of ascending and descending.

11. Devarayanadurga, Tumkur – 70 kms [Temple, Very short trek]

Devarayanadurga is a hill station near Tumkur. The rocky hills are surrounded by forest and the hilltops are dotted with several temples including the Yoganarasimha and the Bhoganarasimha temples and an altitude of 3940 feet.[1] It is also famous for Namada Chilume, a natural spring considered sacred and is also considered the origin of the Jayamangali and Shimsha rivers. Another famous temple in the area is the Mahalakshmi Temple at Goravanahalli.

12. Muthathi, Karnataka – 100 kms [Forest, River, Sight Seeing]

Muthathi is a settlement situated on the banks of the Kaveri river near Malavalli in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is surrounded by a dense forest which is the home of the Kaveri Wildlife Sanctuary. It is also known as the “Elephant Corridor” as it has one of the highest densities of wild elephants in the country. It is famous for river Kaveri, the wild animals, and the breathtaking views .

13. Madhugiri Trek – 103 kms [Fort, Trek]

It is the second largest monolith in Asia.[1] Nestled on its steep slopes is a fort. Antaralada Bagilu, Diddibagilu, and Mysuru Gate are the three gateways of the fort. A series of doorways leads to the hill. The ruined temple of Gopalakrishna is located at the top.

14. BR Hills – 183 kms [Temple, Sight Seeing]

The Biligirirangana Hills is an off-beat getaway for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. Biligiri Rangana Hills derives its name from the Rangaswamy Temple located on top of a white cliff.

15. Sakleshpur – 220 kms [Sight Seeing, Trek]

Sakleshpur, a quaint little hill station nestled in the picturesque Western Ghats, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South India. If one needs a distraction from the busy city-life, this hilly retreat has a lot to offer.

16. Chikmagaluru – 240 kms [Sight Seeing, Trek]

The town with its favorable climate and coffee estates attracts tourists from around the state. the quaint little town’s name in Kannada means ‘town of the younger daughter’. Chikmagalur was given away as dowry to the younger daughter of Rukmangada, the chief of Sakrepatna.

With breathtaking views of the surrounding hills, historic monuments and temples, Chikmagalur is one of the most popular tourist destinations near Bangalore. The Mullayanagiri hill, which is the highest peak in Karnataka, is one of the most visited tourist hotspots in Chikmagalur.

17. Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh – 252 kms [Temple]

Tirupati is considered one of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites because of Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, besides other historical temples, and is referred to as the “Spiritual Capital of Andhra Pradesh”.

18. Madikeri Trip – 270 kms [Sight Seeing]

Madikeri is a beautiful hill station and capital of Kodagu region of Karnataka, Madikeri is a hill station town in Karnataka state, India. Also known as Mercara, it is the headquarters of the district of Kodagu (also called Coorg). It is a popular tourist destination

19. Tadiandamol Hills 270 kms [Trek]

Tadiandamol is the highest mountain of Kodagu district, Karnataka, India. It is the third highest peak in Karnataka. It is located Western Ghats range, and reaches an elevation of 1,748 m. The mountain has patches of shola forests in the valleys.
It is a place of interest for trekkers and naturalists. The climb to the top and back can be completed as a day hike; but it is also a good location for overnight camping.

20. Kukke Sumbramanya – 270 kms [Temple]

Kukke Subramanya is a Hindu temple located in the village of Subramanya, Karnataka Here Kartikeya is worshipped as Subramanya, lord of all serpents. The epics relate that the divine serpent Vasuki and other serpents found refuge under Subramanya when threatened by the Garuda.

21. Dudhsagar – 546 kms [Falls, Trek]

A trip to the Dudhsagar waterfalls is an experience like no other. Located at Goa-Karnataka border, it is the 4th tallest waterfall in India. Literally meaning “Sea of milk”, Dudhsagar shot to fame after being pictured in the recent Shahrukh Khan & Deepika Padukone starrer blockbuster, Chennai Express. It is a four step fall, over steep hills making it difficult to make tourist viewing platforms. One has to trek to be able to behold the beauty of this one.
